Honeywell Selects CMC Electronics to Supply New-Generation Aviation GPS Receivers

Signs Agreement with Potential Sales Value Exceeding $50 Million

(Paris Air Show, June 18, 2001) CMC Electronics has signed a multi-year agreement to supply its latest-generation Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers to Honeywell International. Under the terms of the agreement, the receivers will be integrated in Honeywell's Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) as the GPS reference receiver, and in several of Honeywell's aircraft navigation and landing products. The agreement has a potential sales value in excess of CAN$50 million.

The new CMC Electronics GPS receiver, known as the CMA-4024, is a 24-channel aviation- grade receiver with a growth path to full Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) Category I and LAAS Category IIIb approach capability. CMC Electronics has more than twenty years' experience in the design of certified GPS products. The CMA-4024 has been developed as a collaborative effort with NovAtel, CMC Electronics' subsidiary, and combines the respective technological strengths of both companies to develop the most advanced GPS receiver to meet the most demanding needs of civil aviation.

According to Jim Close, President and CEO of CMC Electronics, "This agreement is another step forward in a series of successful ventures between our company and Honeywell International, targeting the business, commuter and air transport markets. To date, we have supplied Honeywell with more than 5,000 GPS receivers and several thousand specialized component assemblies, including control display unit panels."

The architecture of CMC Electronics' next-generation airborne GPS receiver is unique in the GPS aviation world in its support of the highly stringent requirements of the precision approach function. It is expected to be the industry trendsetter. The receiver is intended to be used in all large commercial aircraft and business jets.

Close added: "The new GPS receiver features several innovations, including a new breed of crystal oscillator. As a system solution, our complex integrated circuit meets and exceeds any avionics certification requirement, and has the growth potential required by our customer - a world leader in aerospace."
