CMC Electronics Awarded Further Contract Options Valued at More Than US$9M for High-Capacity Line-of-sight radio by U.S. Army

(Montréal, September 17, 2001) CMC Electronics has been awarded contract options valued at more than US$9 million by the U.S. Army, under contract DAAB07-98-C-F505. These contract options are for the continued supply of AN/TRC-190 communications shelter upgrades, which include CMC Electronics’ latest-generation High-Capacity Line-of-Sight (HCLOS) radio, the AN/GRC-245. The total value of this contract now exceeds US$40 million.

According to CMC's Alan Barker, Vice President, Military Communications, "CMC Electronics also recently completed qualification tests of the latest version of our HCLOS radio, with its additional legacy interoperability mode. This successfully completes the developmental stage of the program. Future efforts on the program will now focus on production, installation and delivery of the equipment."

CMC Electronics was selected by the U.S. Army for the Area Common User System (ACUS) Radio Modernization Program in 1998 to provide AN/TRC-190 shelter upgrades. The company's state-of-the-art HCLOS radio has now become the RF backbone of the U.S. Army’s digitization capability.

CMC Electronics continues to deliver HCLOS radios to the U.S. Army signal units at Ft. Hood, TX, where the radios and shelters have performed successfully during the First Digitized Division (FDD) exercises last summer, as well as the recently completed Division Capstone Exercise (DCX) at Ft. Irwin, CA.

CMC Electronics is the new name for the former BAE SYSTEMS CANADA, which was acquired by an investor group led by ONCAP L.P. in April 2001, further to approval by BAE SYSTEMS CANADA shareholders. The company designs and produces leading technology electronic products for the aviation, communications, infrared sensing, marine electronics, global positioning and space markets. CMC Electronics has designed and built innovative communication and electronics systems since 1903. Its principal locations are in Montreal, Ottawa and Cincinnati. The company's capabilities are broadened by its subsidiaries, NovAtel Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, and Northstar Technologies in Acton, Massachusetts.
