CMC Electronics Launches Electronic Flight Bag Product Line And Expands Commercial Aviation Product Portfolio

(National Business Aviation Association - October 6, 2003) Further to the sale of its subsidiary Northstar Technologies of Acton, MA, to Brunswick Corporation of Lake Forest, IL, CMC Electronics Inc. has retained responsibility for the former Northstar aviation sector products and launched its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) line of products.

The former Northstar aviation sector products, including the CT-1000G Electronic Flight Bag and the M1 and M3 series GPS products, now benefit from CMC Electronics' expertise in avionics manufacturing and maintenance, and its international support capabilities.

Bruce Bailey, Vice President, Commercial Aviation, CMC Electronics, explains: "Our EFB facilitates pre-flight planning, increases pilots' productivity and situational awareness, and allows operators to move closer to a 'paperless' cockpit. Customer response to the transition from Northstar has been very encouraging. CMC's expertise in FMS, GPS, EVS and aeronautical communications products will help expand our EFB offering over the coming months, with additional applications."

The CT-1000G EFB offers the benefit of a PC platform in an aircraft qualified package. It is D0160D approved and comes with a certified power supply that is already installed on a number of aircraft, including the Bombardier 601, 604 and Global Express, and the Falcon 50ex; and is factory installed on the Gulfstream GIV and GIV-SP. The CT-1000G has also been fitted to helicopters and used for paramilitary missions. Its high-quality display offers excellent readability in all cockpit ambient light conditions. The CT-1000G is an FAA Class 2 EFB product which readily supports Jeppesen® FliteDeck, moving maps and customizable checklists. It can be yoke or side-mounted, satisfying both new aircraft and after-market installation requirements.

The CT-1000G EFB users can also get the benefit of real-time weather. CMC Electronics expects to offer additional productivity options to operators, including performance applications. CMC also plans to expand its EFB product line with a second-generation Class 2 EFB that will provide pilots with another level of flexibility.
