CMC Electronics Launches New Flight Management System
Pilatus Is Launch Customer For First OEM FMS On PC-21 Trainer
(MONTREAL, Canada and Farnborough International Air Show- July 19, 2004) CMC Electronics Inc. has been selected to supply its new Global Positioning System (GPS)-based CMA-9000 Flight Management System (FMS) as a standard fit, dual installation on the Pilatus PC-21 turboprop trainer aircraft.
The CMA-9000 is a compact FMS that is well suited for modern digital cockpits in fixed and rotary wing aircraft for both civil and military applications. It is the next-generation FMS derived from the company's successful CMA-900 FMS/GPS and CMA-3000 helicopter FMS. The single unit CMA-9000 has civil certified multi-sensor (GPS, INS, DME, EGI, Doppler) navigation capabilities. It conforms to the ARINC-739 multifunction control display unit standard, making it suitable as a display and control unit for other systems such as ACARS, ACMS and Satcom. It also has the capability to act as a radio management unit.
Bruce Bailey, CMC's Vice President, Commercial Aviation, explains, "The selection of CMC Electronics' industry leading FMS is very gratifying given Pilatus' prestigious product line and reputation, and the unique profile of the PC-21 aircraft."
The CMC Electronics CMA-900 has received more FAA and other national Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) approvals than any competing product for the avionics upgrade of B747 Classic aircraft. The CMA-900 has been successfully installed and integrated on a number of C-130 aircraft worldwide. With recent orders, the CMA-900 is now in service with over 60 airlines and military operators. The CMA-3000 has been selected for the onboard avionics and fleet upgrades of several aircraft types, including the Swiss Army Super Puma Mark I fleet, the Bavarian Police and German Army EC-135 training helicopters, France's Securite Civile EC-145s, the French Air Force's EC-725 Combat SAR helicopters, and an international AS-332 Super Puma helicopter fleet upgrade. The CMA-3000 carries the pedigree of commercial FAA certification for operation in congested civilian airspace.
CMC Electronics designs and produces leading technology electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. Its principal locations are in Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; and Chicago, Illinois. The company's capabilities are broadened by NovAtel Inc., its subsidiary in Calgary, Alberta.
