CMC Electronics Launches Compact Satcom Antenna System
(EBACE - May 18, 2005) CMC Electronics Inc. has launched a compact Satellite Communications (Satcom) high gain antenna system known as SatLite™ that supports Inmarsat Aero-H, Aero-H+, Switf64 and the new SwiftBroadband satellite communications services. The design of the top-mounted antenna with integrated Beam Steering Unit is based on CMC's field proven proprietary technology and architecture used in its industry leading CMA-2102 high gain antenna system.
The new SatLite antenna complements CMC's Satcom antenna product line and has been optimized for bizjet, regional and narrow body aircraft applications. An important benefit for customers is the SatLite antenna's compatibility with new generation (ARINC 781) and legacy (ARINC 741) terminal equipment.
The SatLite antenna measures 6.7 cm high by 101.3 cm long by 33.3 cm wide, and weighs 7.6 kg.
CMC Electronics is the number one supplier of Satcom antennas to the air transport and VIP business liner markets. The company has captured more than 75% of all Aero-H/H+ airline installations with its Satcom antennas. To date, CMC has delivered approximately 2,000 Inmarsat Satcom antenna systems to more than 100 airline, OEM, military, corporate and VIP customers.
CMC's high gain Satcom antennas' top-mounted technology and architecture virtually eliminate multi-path interference and allow simplified installation. Its high gain antennas fully support Swift64 high speed and SwiftBroadband data services without modification. They enable applications ranging from intranet Virtual Private Network (VPN) access for crews to multi-channel voice services and fast e-mail for passengers. This Inmarsat service has been designed to meet the needs of aircraft passengers, corporate users and the flight deck, while making use of existing Aero H/H+ Satcom components already found on a large number of airline and corporate jet aircraft.
CMC Electronics designs and produces leading technology electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. Its principal locations are in Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; and Chicago, Illinois. CMC is a private company controlled by an investor group led by ONCAP L.P. ONCAP is a CDN $400 million investment fund established by Onex Corporation and a number of leading Canadian financial institutions. Onex is a diversified company with annual consolidated revenues of approximately CDN $16 billion and consolidated assets of approximately CDN $14 billion. Onex is one of Canada's largest companies with global operations in the service, manufacturing and technology industries.
