Minister Michelle Courchesne Announces $2.8 Million Training Program and More Than 200 Jobs Maintained or Created at CMC Electronics in Ville Saint-Laurent

Montreal, December 1, 2006 - The Quebec Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity, Michelle Courchesne, and the President and CEO of CMC Electronics, Jean-Pierre Mortreux, have announced a $2.8 million investment by CMC in an employee training program which includes financial support of $745,000 from Emploi-Québec. The training program involves 215 specialized jobs of which 140 are new positions.

This important training program by CMC Electronics complements the $20.3 million investment by CMC, which was announced last July at the Farnborough International Air Show in the U.K., during the economic mission led by Mr. Raymond Bachand, the Quebec Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade. During the Air Show, the Quebec Government announced that Investissement Québec would grant financial assistance of $2.5 million to bolster a project to modernize CMC's facility.

"Through this major investment, CMC Electronics will not only position itself as a designer and manufacturer of electronics systems, but also as an integrator of cockpit electronics systems. With the support of Emploi-Québec, our government is striving to provide the company's new recruits as well as the employees currently assigned to this project with the opportunity to acquire a breadth of capabilities in the area of cockpit systems integration," said Minister Michelle Courchesne.

Positions in cockpit integration require a detailed knowledge of the various systems within the cockpit that are to be integrated. The capability to integrate the avionics systems within a cockpit is a complex responsibility for the systems integrator.

"CMC Electronics is pursuing its objective to establish and develop its center of excellence in cockpit systems integration here in Quebec. The support provided by the Quebec Government has assisted CMC in the creation of 140 new, specialized positions and to continue our expansion here in Montreal," said Mr. Jean-Pierre Mortreux.

"The Quebec aerospace industry, which employs 43,000 people, represents more than 60% of Canada's aerospace industry activities and is the sixth largest in the world. Aerospace is a major driver of our economy and our premier export sector. Our government is proud to support the expansion of this strategic business sector in Montreal and Quebec, which will add more than one hundred jobs and maintain 75 others. By establishing structured training programs, we will continue to contribute to the affirmation of Quebec's leadership in the development of our workforce's skills. By associating ourselves with partners such as CMC Electronics, we will achieve our goal," concluded Minister Michelle Courchesne.

CMC Electronics' head office is in Montreal. Additional facilities are located in Ottawa and Chicago. The company designs and produces leading technology electronics products for the aviation and global positioning markets. CMC has a workforce of nearly 800 in Montreal. Its prestigious customer list includes Honeywell, Boeing, Airbus, KLM, Air Canada, Bombardier, Thales and Sikorsky, as well as the armed forces of Canada and the United States.
