Esterline CMC Electronics Supplies HUD for Pilatus PC-21 Fleet Selected by Republic of Singapore Air Force

(Montreal and Singapore Air Show - February 19, 2008) CMC Electronics is on track to complete deliveries of Head Up Display (HUD) subsystems to Pilatus Aircraft Ltd. for the Republic of Singapore Air Force's fleet of PC-21 aircraft. Pilatus Aircraft awarded CMC Electronics the contract for the supply of 25 HUDs in November 2006. CMC is also contracted to provide software that is certifiable to DO-178 Level C. Final deliveries are scheduled by April 2008. CMC's Jean-Michel Comtois, Vice President, Military Aviation, stated: "CMC is pleased to be the HUD supplier for the PC-21 for the Republic of Singapore Air Force. The PC-21 represents the future for military training. It has low operational costs, yet its performance covers at least 70 to 80 percent of the military pilot's training scenario." CMC Electronics is supplying its compact, high-performance SparrowHawk HUD integrated with a HUD Symbol Generator as well as a Video Display Unit for the rear cockpit of the PC-21. The SparrowHawk is a 25º Total Field of View HUD with both stroke and raster capability. Its unique lens systems and high-performance combiners provide symbol brightness up to 3,000 ftL, yet afford a long CRT life. The HUD Symbol Generator features the latest CompactPCI/PMC architecture that has a powerful Power PC Processor. Its power and modular architecture can be expanded to handle navigation and HUD processing as well as the special graphics processing for the Multi-Function Displays.

A unique feature of the HUD Symbol Generator is the ability to display both raster video and stroke symbology. The latter can be overlaid with video from a camera mounted forward of the HUD combiners. The result is a high-quality HUD symbology display on the rear cockpit monitor or video recorder regardless of the ambient light conditions.

CMC Electronics has been supplying HUD subsystems to Pilatus since 1991. In recent years, CMC Electronics supplied Pilatus with HUDs for the PC-9M for the Irish Air Corp and the Bulgarian Air Force. In 2004, Pilatus selected CMC's CMA-9000 Flight Management System as a standard fit for the PC-21. In 2005, CMC's PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag and SureSight® M-Series Enhanced Vision System sensor were selected as factory options for the PC-12 business aircraft.
