ATR on Track for Certification of Esterline CMC Electronics’ PilotView® EFB

(Farnborough International Air Show – July 14, 2008) CMC Electronics is working with ATR towards EASA certification of the Class 2 PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) selected by ATR (and announced at the 2007 Paris Air Show) as a standard option for new aircraft production and for retrofits of in-service ATR-42 and ATR-72 aircraft. The installation underwent additional test flights in May, which allowed further fine-tuning of the mechanical mount to ensure full integrity at all flight regimes, while still providing flexibility in display orientation for maximum pilot satisfaction. The dual installation PilotView EFBs will enable paperless cockpit operations, including aircraft data, procedures manuals and interactive electronic charts.

Bruce Bailey, CMC Electronics' Vice President, Commercial Aviation, noted: “The PilotView is starting to show airlines how to save costs and the expected certification by ATR will enable regional airlines to capitalize on cockpit computer technologies to increase fleet profitability”.

CMC’s PilotView EFB stays powered during all flight phases, thereby improving productivity and reducing workload. Flight preparation is made easy with efficient access to up-to-date aircraft documentation, checklists and flight planning information. During flight, the PilotView further reduces pilot workload with electronic charts and manuals, and will soon enhance safety with real-time weather information. On the ground, electronic logs capture essential information and fleet management is performed in practically real time with the electronic transfer of data that was previously circulated on paper. The PilotView EFB is a compact, lightweight system with a display/processor unit and aircraft interface unit, which are easy to install in a variety of cockpits.

There are currently over 23 STCs available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the GV and Global Express to the B737. CMC’s PilotView is the sole OEM EFB option at Dassault, Gulfstream, Pilatus and Sino Swearingen. More recently, PilotView was selected by Embraer for the E-170/190 program.
