Lockheed Martin Selects Esterline CMC Electronics’ TacView™ Portable Mission Display and GPS Sensor for C-130J Hercules
(Farnborough Air Show – July 15, 2008) Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in Marietta, Georgia, has selected CMC Electronics’ Portable Mission Display known as TacView™ to meet current and future C-130J Mobile Display System (MDS) requirements. TacView will facilitate secure tactical data link communications and paperless cockpit operations enabling unprecedented situational awareness for the crew. As a compact, portable unit, TacView provides MDS functionality in the C-130J, extending enhanced situational awareness to mission specialists, loadmasters and troop commanders in addition to the pilot and copilot.
CMC’s TacView is specifically designed to facilitate military and paramilitary airborne mission effectiveness by streamlining cockpit workload. It consists of a rugged, self-contained Night Vision Imaging System compatible smart display and companion power supply/interface module. TacView provides functionality enhancements for military transports, fighters and helicopters without impacting or having to modify the aircraft’s existing operational flight program. Some of the functions that can be hosted by TacView include Joint Precision Air Drop System (JPADS), FalconView™ portable mission planning, digital moving map, real-time weather imagery, sensor imaging and DOD supplied aeronautical charts.
In addition, CMC Electronics has been selected by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to supply a dual installation, civil certified Global Positioning System (GPS) sensor on the C-130J Hercules. This installation will encompass retrofit as well as forward fit applications to the aircraft.
CMC’s IntegriFlight™ CMA-5024 GPS Landing System Sensor meets the C-130J requirement for an Instrument Flight Rules, civil certified Global Navigation Satellite System. The CMA-5024 provides Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) GPS capability from departure to Non Precision Approach, that will comply with published CNS/ATM navigational mandates and growth provisions.
WAAS augments GPS to provide an extremely accurate navigation solution that will support all C-130J flight operations from en route through Global Navigation Satellite System and WAAS Localizer Performance with a Vertical Guidance (LPV) CAT-1 equivalent approach. WAAS also provides a level of integrity not achievable by GPS alone.
Jean-Pierre Mortreux, CMC Electronics President and CEO, said: “The selection by Lockheed Martin of CMC systems for the C-130J is very exciting news and a solid endorsement of our products’ capability to meet stringent military requirements.”
