PilotView® EFB Content Management and Connectivity
The PilotView® EFB offers multiple communication options. They are coupled with integrated data synchronization software to ensure applications and user data are up to date at all time.
Communication Options
The PilotView® EFB provides communications capabilities which are integrated with the EDU or conveniently available via the lightweight EMU.
The EDU communication interfaces include:
- Wireless LAN: The EDU comes with an integrated 802.11a/b/g wireless LAN (also called WiFi) capability that enables wireless communications within the cabin or to the ground via a TWLU (Terminal Wireless Lan Unit).
- USB 2.0: Two integrated USB 2.0 interfaces (one of each side) are available on the EDU enabling easy data updates for charts or documents via a USB memory stick or an external CD/DVD ROM device.
- GPRS: Communications via GPRS are enabled through the use of an optional GPRS PCMCIA card installed in the EDU.
The Base EMU provides in addition to two additional USB 2.0 ports:
- Ethernet: 10/100 BaseT Ethernet.
- RS-232: for serial communications to various on-board peripherals.
The Enhanced version of the EMU provides further options:
- ARINC429: for reception of GPS or flight plan data from an external FMS or aircraft inertial.
- NTSC/PAL/RS-170 Video: for head down EVS or secure camera applications.
- RS-422: this optional serial interface can provide interface to weather receivers or other systems on-board.
EFB Content Management
The PilotView® ECM is an optional CMC software package ensuring the management of EFB data, including documents, check lists, application data sets and system files such as configuration files and anti-virus signature files.
- An application resides on the EFB which is used to efficiently retrieve and store an up-to-date copy of the EFB documents and application files.
- An easy to use web-based customer application is available to control documents subscribtions at fleet and aircraft levels, to review and control the structure of the documents to be sent to individual EFBs.
- The ECM offers the means to securely distribute full or incremental data updates to individual EFBs in the field via LAN or Wireless LAN or directly via USB memory stick or CD-ROM.
